What is mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is an injection and treatment technique used in general medicine for a multitude of medical conditions. Mesotherapy was developed by French physician Dr Michel Pistor in the early 1950s to treat conditions such as rheumatology, sports traumatology, and infectious and vascular diseases. Mesotherapy is a non-surgical local procedure consisting in administering revitalising substances, vitamins or drugs to the dermis by means of small and dense punctures. For many years both in Europe and USA, it has been invariably one of the most popular and most frequently chosen aesthetic treatments. Its fame is well deserved.
Mesotherapy is a non-invasive and very effective way to rejuvenate and regenerate the skin. As the name suggests, it is about strengthening and healing the skin from the inside (meso-therapy). During the treatment, nutrients are injected deep under the skin through a series of micro-punctures. The injected substance (so-called mesococtail) is a mixture of specially selected ingredients, tailored to the needs and problems of each client.
Although mesotherapy is mainly associated with facial rejuvenation and removal of dark circles under eyes, it can also be used on the body and even to reduce hair loss (scalp mesotherapy). It helps in firming and moisturising flaccid skin, getting rid of cellulite, scars and stretch marks. It can be used on the neck and cleavage, hands, abdomen, arms, thighs and buttocks.
What can be treated with mesotherapy?
With mesotherapy we can treat: face, neck, décolleté, back of hands, body (anti-cellulite treatment) and scalp (anti-hair loss treatment).
What goes into mesococtail?
Preparations for mesotherapy treatments of face, neck and cleavage contain mainly hyaluronic acid and other individually selected ingredients, such as: vitamins (most often A, C, E), peptides, amino acids or active substances derived, for example, from algae and green tea. Very often, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is also used for mesotherapy - that is, centrifuged and specially prepared patient's own blood. Plasma has great regenerative properties and is one of the most effective ways to rejuvenate the skin. This is also known as the Vampire Lift.
Hyaluronic acid, which is the main ingredient of mesococktails, is also a naturally occurring compound in our skin, it acts like a sponge, binding water in the skin. One molecule of hyaluronic acid is able to bind approx. 250 water molecules. Additionally, vitamins delivered to the skin with the help of mesotherapy show 100% of their intended activity. Thanks to the direct route of administration, vitamins do not oxidise, and their amount is sufficient to cause the assumed processes, such as: increasing collagen production or inhibiting skin degenerating free radical reactions.
For body mesotherapy, we use mesococtails containing, for example, DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol) - a substance that causes skin tightening and lifting. It also increases muscle tone, improves skin quality, stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin, and deeply nourishes the skin. The second substance is phosphatidylcholine. Its job is to dissolve and eliminate fatty tissue. It easily penetrates through cell membranes into them, and when administered in larger amounts, it causes the relaxation of the membrane structure and, their disruption. After penetrating it, phosphatidylcholine causes the breakdown of accumulated triglycerides (fat).
Mesotherapy - how often is the procedure performed?
Mesotherapy is a biological and progressive treatment that requires a minimum of 6 sessions [3 months] for a skin visibly rejuvenated. Each treatment improves the skin. If we want the effects to last, it should be done in series.
Depending on the product and the problem, 3-5 to 7 mesotherapy treatments are performed at intervals of 7-21 days. Then it is enough to perform a reminder procedure every 3-6 months.

Revitalizing mature skins requires a more recurrent treatment pace than younger skins. In vitro study of fibroblasts proliferation when in presence of NCTF 135® reveals that aged fibroblasts require more product than young fibroblasts.
Does mesotherapy hurt?
No, it doesn’t. The procedure uses very thin needle, so it’s almost painless, but before the treatment your skin is numbed with a topical anaesthetic to ensure comfort.
What happens after the mesotherapy treatment?
After the treatment, you may notice for example: few red pinprick marks, some redness, but after a few hours your skin will settle and you’ll start feeling your skin getting tighter and smoother.
How much does mesotherapy cost?
The price heavily depends on the products used. But as an example at Beauty Architect Aesthetics in Peterborough - an injectable moisturiser, so just pure, non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid - a single treatment costs £69! However when you buy a course of for example 3 sessions then it costs only £159! For full price list click here.
